This personal story highlights why relationships are everything.
Today we want to share an interesting personal story about a memorable client. It’s an emotional story, but we think it proves that real estate is all about relationships.
We had received a call from a woman out of the blue who was looking to sell her home. We jumped at the opportunity and arranged to meet her in her current home. When we arrived, we saw that boxes were piled up everywhere; it looked like this person needed to downsize quickly.
When we started talking about her situation, it didn't take long for her to break down crying. It turns out she didn't really want to move, but she was a victim of domestic abuse. Our hearts were moved, so we tried to help her find a way out of her housing issues. We suggested she try to rent out the home and see if the rent could help her cover her mortgage payments.
Relationships come first in real estate.
We found her a tenant quickly, but it didn’t feel right to charge her. We went to our lender and explained the situation, and she agreed to waive the costs. Unfortunately, our client had no experience being a landlord, and the house had a lot of problems. The tenant had to move out from all the issues, but they had paid enough rent and had given our client enough time that she was able to move back into her home.
While the tenant had to move out because of the issues, they were so moved by what we did for our client that they later asked us to help them with their next move. We helped the tenants and their daughter close on homes, but this story isn’t about how we sold two properties. The point is that relationships come first in real estate. Priority No. 1 should be to help our clients and build beautiful relationships.
